Wildlife
Living on the wild side

In Sarawak, we support the research and education on wildlife in our concession areas with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), New York.

The WCS has been working in the Ulu Baram area since 2001 together with the Sarawak Forest Department and Samling towards implementing a Master Plan for Wildlife in Sarawak. Focus areas include legal restrictions on wildlife trade, and working with local communities to reduce hunting pressure on wildlife in the concession areas.

Among the measures adopted are conservation education for local communities and our staff, enforcement operations in the logging camps, and regular wildlife surveys and hunting interviews to assess wildlife populations and hunting patterns.

Samling ensures strict control of wildlife poaching and hunting. Our employees working in or visiting the forest areas comply with the provisions of the relevant wildlife protection regulations in the relevant countries.

“The Sela’an Linau Sustainable Forest Management Unit is the first of its kind in Sarawak and we are proud to be able to participate and do research here. This is a great opportunity to further develop sustainable harvesting in other areas in Sarawak.”
