Janji - Malaysian Art
Our Promise for Tomorrow

Janji, which means promise in Malay, is an initiative supported by Samling to promote Malaysian indigenous art and handicraft. A Janji sales outlet has been established in Suria KLCC, Malaysia's leading shopping centre in Kuala Lumpur City Centre.

Exquisitely handcrafted traditional handicraft items are purchased from the communities to be sold in the Janji outlet, with the proceeds of the sale going back to the Group’s community projects. Through this initiative, local communities stand to benefit from the greater awareness of their craft, improved quality of their products, and eventually healthier income for the community.

While providing retailing opportunities to a wider market, we also engage the community by providing guidance, motivation and sharing ideas to improve the quality and processes of making these handicrafts.

Samling hopes to add further value to this initiative by helping the communities involved set up smaller outlets across Malaysia to help develop their business acumen and further specialisation in various stages of the production process.

“Through Samling’s support, we hope that more handicrafts from members of the local communities will find new markets internationally. Janji is our promise to preserve what is truly Malaysian – our art and culture."
