Community

There are many indigenous people who live in the areas of our operations, including the Kenyah, Kelabit, Kayan, Iban, Penan, Punan, Lun Bawang, Saban and many others in Sarawak, and the Amerindians in Guyana. Our continued success goes hand-in-hand with our role as neighbours to communities and the wider society.

A Tradition of Dialogue

To promote greater understanding, we make it a point to engage in dialogue with forest communities. Read more about our team of Community Liaison Officers.

Community Assistance

Helping communities with their most basic needs come naturally to us. We have brought electricity, clean water and building materials to many remote forest villages.

Travelling through the forest can take days, sometimes weeks. Forest communities have been able to benefit from the various infrastructure projects we develop over the years, enabling safer and more convenient travel for all in the forest.

Community Skills Programmes

Once communities have their basic needs met, Samling helps to create long-term, self-reliance through skills training to encourage sustainable livelihoods.

Janji – Malaysian Art

The ‘Janji’ initiative is established to promote
Malaysian art and handicraft. Exquisite and authentic
indigenous handicrafts are sourced directly from local
communities, providing them regular and better
income to improve their living standards.

Scholarship and Bursary Programme

We believe in creating opportunities for young people and our scholarships honour the best and brightest, sending them to new heights, while our bursaries open doors to further education.
